The second most important thing to do after arriving in the U.S. You must apply for a Social Security Number at the nearest office of the Social Security Administration.

Social Security Administration will mail your number and card as soon as
they have all of your information and have verified
your documents with the issuing offices.The issuance of SSN usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.
